For Hey Ram, SRK decided to work for free because it was his dream to share screen space with the legendary star Kamal Haasan. The Don actor was seen making a cameo appearance in the Tamil movie. In several interviews, Haasan appreciated SRK for agreeing to do the film without taking any money.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui (Manto)
Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who played the role of late Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto in his biopic Manto, waived his fee for the 2018 movie. In an interview, Nandita Das said, “This is the character that an actor would give an arm and leg for. But to not charge even a nominal fee is very gracious of Nawaz.”
Meena Kumari (Pakeezah)
For 1972 blockbuster film Pakeezah, actress Meena Kumari just took Rs 1 as a token of appreciation and she didn’t charge her usual fee from the filmmaker. The film turned out to be a huge commercial hit back then and today, it is counted among the best films of Indian cinema.
Irrfan Khan (Road to Ladakh)
In 2004, Irrfan acted in Ashvin Kumar’s directorial debut film Road To Ladakh and he didn’t even charge a penny from the filmmaker. In an interview, Ashvin said, “I remember when we were in Delhi before leaving for Ladakh, that evening Bhai had met with an accident. He injured his wrist. He had all the medical reasons to back out as I was not paying him and he was voluntarily supporting the film. But he said, ‘I promised you, I will keep my words’.”
Amitabh Bachchan (Black)
Big B didn’t charge any fee for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Black. In his blog, Amitabh shared the same and wrote, “I had just wanted to work with Sanjay, after seeing all his other works he had done… And when the opportunity came it was quite overwhelming. I did not take any salary for the film… Just being a part of such an enterprise, was sufficient fees!”
Deepika Padukone (Om Shanti Om)
Deepika made her acting debut with Om Shanti Om but did you know that she didn’t take any money for the film? Yes, the actress agreed to do Farah Khan’s film without any salary or fee.
Shahid Kapoor (Haider)
Actor Shahid Kapoor did not charge even a single penny for Vishal Bhardwaj directorial Haider to save the movie from going over the budget. And since he truly believed in the project, he decided to forgo his remuneration for the movie.
